APPLICATION FOR A STUDENT VISA

 

• IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU PROVIDE ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS LISTED BELOW WHEN YOU LODGE YOUR STUDENT VISA APPLICATION. IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS, YOUR APPLICATION MAY BE REFUSED
• IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT ALL DOCUMENTS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION


 Form 157A – please ensure all questions are answered and the form is signed
 Visa processing charge
 4 passport size photographs
 Acceptance advice form (from an approved educational institution in Australia)
 Evidence of sufficient funds to support your intended stay in Australia (bank account statements, savings book etc). You need to be able to show that you own or can legally spend these funds, so statements should be itemised and historical, held for at last three months prior to lodgement.
 For current students, a certificate from your institution giving you leave from your studies, or if you are employed an original letter of leave from your employer confirming your current position/duties with the company, length of employment and the dates of the leave that has been granted to you. You should also provide evidence from the social security department stating who has been paying the social security payments for you in the last three months. 
 School graduation certificate, academic records
PENAL CHECK is required only for applicants who intend to stay in Australia for more than 12 months. The certificate must be the original, issued within the last three months. Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM, Romanian and BiH citizens must provide a 'Certificate of Police Clearance'.
 A signed and completed 'DECLARATION AND STATEMENT REGARDING CHARACTER'– (for Serbia and Montenegro nationals and Former Yugoslav nationals born between 1930-1985 inclusive. The form can be downloaded here), AND your military book, military discharge papers and original documents relating to any injury and/or illness sustained during military service, and/or any injury or illness which has prevented you undertaking military service.
 If you are under 18, both parents’/legal guardians’ consent for your stay in Australia and birth certificate. These documents must be supplied as originals or certified copies. If you will not be living with a parent, adult guardian, or adult nominated by parent/guardian, provide a letter from education provider confirming appropriate arrangements have been made for your accommodation, support and welfare during your stay in Australia.
 If the course you are attending is not an English language course, evidence that your English language skills are adequate, ie.IELTS test scores.
 Certified copies of birth certificates for you, your spouse and your children if applicable, and evidence of enrolment of school age children in Australian schools, if you intend for them to live with you for more than 3 months.

 If your inviter, migration agent, family member in Australia or in your own country, or any third person is seeking information about your application, we must have written consent from you to liaise with that person.

Medical examinations are a mandatory requirement for this visa subclass. You will be advised how and where the medical examinations are to be done once your application has been assessed.

Financial ability:
 Evidence that the applicant has funds from an acceptable source sufficient to meet all expenses for the first 24 months. The applicant must also provide a declaration that has access to adequate funds to meet costs for remainder of study and stay in Australia.
 Evidence of a money deposit that the applicant or a person providing support to the applicant has held for at least the 3 months immediately before the date of the application.
 Evidence of the income of any individuals providing financial support (including the applicant).
Loans from the applicant’s home country government or a financial institution are acceptable, for part or all of the total costs.
Non cash assets are not acceptable.
 The following types of scholarship are acceptable: Australian education provider, foreign government, Australian Commonwealth or State/Territory government, multilateral agency. A scholarship or financial support is also acceptable where it is from a corporation that employs the applicant in role directly related to the course to be undertaken and which conducts commercial activities outside the country in which it is based

Calculating the total costs of education and stay:
Tuition costs will vary between providers
Assume living costs of A$12,000 per annum for applicants who have no family unit members.
Costs could be expected to increase by
• at least 35% if the student has a spouse;
• a further 20% (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling) if the student has at least one child;
• a further 15% for each additional child (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling).
Above applies to all members of the family unit who must be declared, irrespective of whether they will accompany the primary applicant
Individual return travel costs to/from Australia will vary depending on geographic location of applicant (s).
All costs calculated on a pro rata basis.

 Applicant is fully funded, has a level of English that satisfies the education provider AND if an ELICOS course will be taken prior to the principal course, that ELICOS course will be no longer than 30 weeks in duration.
 Any IELTS test must have been conducted not more than 24 months before the day on which the application was made.

Financial ability:
 Evidence that applicant has sufficient funds to meet costs of prerequisite ELICOS, bridging or foundation course and first year of postgraduate education and stay. Applicant must also provide a declaration that has access to adequate funds to meet costs for remainder of study and stay in Australia.
 Evidence that the regular income of any individual (including the applicant) providing funds to the applicant was sufficient to accumulate the level of funding being provided by that individual.
No restriction on source of funds.

Calculating the total costs of education and stay:
Tuition costs will vary between providers
Assume living costs of A$12,000 per annum for applicants who have no family unit members.
Costs could be expected to increase by
• at least 35% if the student has a spouse;
• a further 20% (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling) if the student has at least one child;
• a further 15% for each additional child (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling).

NOTE: Where funds are to be evidenced by a monetary deposit held in a financial institution, records must be provided to demonstrate the money was held for at least 3 months immediately preceding visa application lodgement.
 Family provided funds must be consistent with declared income streams.
 Commercial and government loans are acceptable.
 Non cash assets are not acceptable.
